Hi Jud,
(1) For understandable reasons the archive needs to be moved away from the university because it is dominating and interfering with the search engines which serve the interests of the university.
No, it will be moved because my connection with the uni is rather tenuous and the former school server may have a limited life.
(2) The new setup will mean that when members post to the list their messages will continue to appear automatically without any need for them to do anything.
Yes, although it looks like the blog prefers html and rich text emails over plain text.
(3) In addition - for those that are interested - members who register and are supplied with a password etc. - It will be able to gain access to the list and edit or tidy up their own text [other peoples’ text to be left well alone]
Still deciding on that one as it appears authors can then also edit all posts, including admin’s (me). It’s disabled for the moment but you can still publish your own posts and edit them.
(4) members who wish can have their own *private blog page where they can post articles that they have written on Heideggerian themes or articles by others that they have come across perhaps on the Internet, that they think might be of interest to others. They can insert links to other websites with articles and papers of interest, etc.
Yes, I’ve opened up admin/links, admin/manage/categories and admin/write/page for all authors. Use pages for static content, add categories for subjects to post to, and add links to relevant Heidegger sites. Content guidelines are the same as for the mailing list.
I use AOL which I am not particularly happy with as it has a crap editor. But it does have other plusses and it would be a pain in the ass for me to change over. The HTLM it produces seems to suit your site? Am I correct in this assumption Malcolm?
Yep, all is AOK with AOL html layout.
Your friendly place feels warm already Malcolm. The wraith of a smiling Crocodile Dundee in the long white night-dress that has taken up residence as house-spirit is none other than Empanda the Roman Goddess of openness, friendliness and generosity in disguise.
I’m interested in the concept of community sites as I think the internet is a public community network especially when these communication technologies are opened up. The basic structure is up and running and seems interesting enough. Next thing I need is a design to graft onto it.
Cheers,
Malcolm
