BobS:
So, …not to quibble over semantics or technicalities, the point is that in
each case the person actively choses death, and achieves thereby translation
into higher being, from man to god.
Bernard:
Accordingly, suicide is the greatest assertton of the will to power insofar as thanatos is the via regia to final perfection.
BobS:
I find heid’s formulation, resolute being towards death, the via crucis, superior to nietzsche’s. you are being ironic and that really makes the pt, -the clear absurdity of wtp analysis of jesus or soc, contra nietzsche.
There’s another kind of irony present here: in the notion that assertion is already will-to-power, so that a great assertion of the will-to-power is a will-to-power of will-to-power; i.e., WtP does not need asserting. In any case, Nietzsche makes the point several times that art is the most perspicuous form of the will-to-power, not death (although death is more prevalent and ubiquitous).

i agree, Michael, the patent absurdity of religion/art (spirit) qua wtp clearly exposes, -only think of all the testimony by great religionists and artists re the mysterious provenance (inspiration) of their expression, the danger of non-dialectical thinking.
