BobS:
So, …not to quibble over semantics or technicalities, the point is that in
each case the person actively choses death, and achieves thereby translation
into higher being, from man to god.
Bernard:
Accordingly, suicide is the greatest assertton of the will to power insofar as thanatos is the via regia to final perfection.
BobS:
I find heid’s formulation, resolute being towards death, the via crucis, superior to nietzsche’s. you are being ironic and that really makes the pt, -the clear absurdity of wtp analysis of jesus or soc, contra nietzsche.
There’s another kind of irony present here: in the notion that assertion is already will-to-power, so that a great assertion of the will-to-power is a will-to-power of will-to-power; i.e., WtP does not need asserting. In any case, Nietzsche makes the point several times that art is the most perspicuous form of the will-to-power, not death (although death is more prevalent and ubiquitous).

i agree, Michael, the patent absurdity of religion/art (spirit) qua wtp clearly exposes, -only think of all the testimony by great religionists and artists re the mysterious provenance (inspiration) of their expression, the danger of non-dialectical thinking.

paradoxically, if one thinks of Nietzsche’s idea of art, then art = technology. Heidegger somewhere considers
a dam in the mountains to be the real work of art in our era. A good place to experience Verlassenheit.
what also came to mind was: “There are still songs to be sung beyond men” (Celan) Re glass, mind his title
Atemkristall, Breath-crystall. Logos as seeing. (and Spinoza …)
The glass, the poet, is also the bell, and yre equally easily to disturb, in:
On account of lesser things
was mistuned, as by snow,
the bell, which sounds
for the evening meal.
The ‘crazy’ editor Sattler brings verses, already known, as belonging to this fragment.
They talk of manna, and that there was a Murren, a complaning, but physically: Murren,
my bible gives: gemor. The Jews in the desert complain, they are hungry. They are getting
bread from above, manna, and they eat it during 40 years. Then things like Jericho become
understandable. This bread is not fruit of the earth, it is ‘only’ blessed by heaven. Only light
(honey), not hiddenness.
Here lies hidden, ot better: publicly accessible, a big secret, which has to do with the divine
appearance to Jews first - a great and strong tradition - and to the Greeks - short and shining.
One must see the desert, the “pour place which flowers”, where also Christ turns to, the great
anfang which can come also to lesser. and a lot more: all Hölderlin. And the earthless bread …
and the complaining. Jahveh even has to trade with the Jews in order to satisfy them.
“Do you still don’t see?” (NT)
It is also absolutely to the Jews themselves, in order to get them the hell out of the coming
rage of antisemitism or antiantiantisemitism. First Iraq. Now Iraq and Lebanon. Times will to will
makes….

maybe it is also permittable to point to a peculiarity of Hölderlin’s SINGING, that
if one finds the right tone, of itself are forming centers of rest, where the verse becomes
a sort of sententia. Also related is the exaiphnes, the sudden lighting up, which is peculiar
to seeing, er-sehen.
All this, precisly now, btw, is only possible because of the other side, the Gestell, the opposite with which
it belongs together, fits in with. If it is too big for us, i mean the essence of technology, then we
have to become greater, in order to face it. Heidegger somewhere speaks of a granting, a Gunst
over his thinking way. So either he is a clown, or .. a Schicksal indeed. He was quite satisfied
with THAT alternative. The betterknowers …
