ME: No need to dismiss Anaximander and his _apeiron_ (sic). What is
needed is to dig deeper. Hegel never dismisses an earlier philosopher
with speculative insight, but saves his insight and elevates it to a
more thought-through and hence grounded level. Similarly with _ousia_
(variously rendered as ‘beingness’, ’substance’, ‘essence’) as the first
of Aristotle’s categories. Since Hegel’s Logik and Heidegger’s question
concerning the meaning of being, i.e. for some goodly time now, this
digging deeper is underway. Hence, the category of substance in Hegel’s
Logik is not developed until the second part, Doctrine of Essence, and
does not occur in the first part, the Doctrine of Being, at all. And
Heidegger translates _ousia_ as “ständige Anwesenheit” or “standing
presence”, thus making the connection between being and time explicit
for the first time in the history of philosophy. Ex-plicating, i.e.
folding-out or laying-out, what is im-plicit or already folded into the
tradition of thinking is the task.
