Hi Allen, thanks, of course you’re right; the book edition I have by David
Oswald is also bilingual; and I have an online version (english only) by
someone Kline (I think). English-wise they are quite different in places. Of
course, my problem would disappear if I just went for the german anyway, but
I feel it necessary to have it sung in english rendered as beautifully as it
can (sound and sense in heightened cooperation), the words articulated
clearly and sensually (without unnecessary swamping big vibrato and other
syllable-smudging power tricks), more Monteverdi than Verdi…

I shall look and listen to Stephen Mitchell’s edition in due course, and
thanks again for turning my (h)ear.
