MR: >So you are accusing me of anti-Americanism now? What is anti-Americanism? I’m an Aussie and grew up with Sesame Street and knowing as much about US history as Australian. My society is about as “Americanised” as any on the planet, the North Americans I’ve met have been cool people,

MR: >I don’t hate the US as a national entity

BG: But you NEVER approach the US phenomenologically and in my view. It is always thru the filter of how *bad and wrong* the US is as a national entity in it’s domestic practices (e.g. energy consumption) and national security concerns (e.g. response to 9/11) and in my view.

MR:and I devour a good deal of its cultural exports, and what about you, you’re Canadian aren’t you BobG?

BG: 10th generation Texan living in California.

MR:This is the way most polemics seem to work on many of the online forums I’ve been to, and in many cases it seems people just can’t help themselves. Any discussion of the current war on terror that deviates from a generalized conservative US approach gets denounced as anti-semitism, anti-Zionism and/or anti-Americanism. It’s the basest form of polarising debating technique and an accusation that I will certainly take you up on if you care to put your words where your mouth is.

BG: LOL. See my response above.

MR:>But can you really not respond in any other way than dissemblance and baiting to the proposition that the US war in Iraq is state terrorism?

BG: See my response above.

MR:There are plenty of Americans on the internet today who do not resile from asking very hard questions about the war and its future, they seem to me to be mostly patriotic citizens, are they anti-Americans too from your North American perspective? In fact does anyone who questions your own everyday assumptions about your middle class world immediately become “anti-American” to you?
>I’d certainly be interested in your responses to these questions BobG.

BG: My response is: “No” and “No” — but are you one to approach the topic phenomenologically or already from an emotionally infused basis? ..serious question.

Bob
