I think it’s safe to say that life wouldn’t be remotely “good” or
“satisfactory” if hundreds of thousands of their countrymen and loved ones
had been slaughtered, with continuing tyranny afterwards. Would you say so
if asked?

Easy - they obviously must have been acting on authority from the highest
levels of the chain of command, who then also directed them to orchestrate
the entire cover-up, on pain of death should any of them reveal where their
orders came from, or that this is standard US military policy. What other
explanation could there possibly be?

Let’s turn to Iraqis themselves for a more sane theory, shall we?

Oxford Research National Survey of Iraq, June 2004

Q46 - Do you believe the abuse of prisoners by US soldiers at Abu Ghraib is
wrongdoing by fewer than 100 people, quite a few more people, or is the
entire USA like this?

Fewer than 100 people: 47.9%
Quite a few more people: 23.0%
The entire USA is like this: 17.9%
I do not know enough about this matter to comment: 7.6%
No answer: 3.6%

Why are you unable to acknowledge possibilities that those “tyrannized”
themselves are willing to grant?

If a child kept shooting at you and your loved ones with a gun, and you
captured him, would you let him go without assurance that he would never do
it again?
