I’ve been slowly checking out a few of the Heidegger blogs online and came across Kevin Winters Heideggerian Denken.
For the fluent Deutsch speakers on list how would you interpret the following omitted sentence from Stambaugh’s translation of “The Principle of Identity”?
Man hat sich an diesem Wortgebrauch gestoβen. Aber wir sagen statt «stellen» auch «setzen» und finden nichts dabei, daβ wir das Wort Ge-setz gebrauchen. Warum also nicht auch Ge-Stell, wenn der Blick in den Sachverhalt dies verlangt?

Der Name für die Versammlung des Herausforderns, das Mensch und Sein einander so zu-stellt, daβ sie sich wechselweise stellen, lautet: das Ge-Stell. Man hat sich an diesem Wortgebrauch gestoβen. Aber wir sagen statt «stellen» auch «setzen» und finden nichts dabei, daβ wir das Wort Ge-setz gebrauchen. I would certainly apprecite a more thorough translation. My professor who provided me with the translation on my blog called it “rough,” but I don’t know what a non-rough translation of that passage would look like.

Hi Daseyn,
someone usually comes up with a good translation and yes, the difficulties with Ge-stell and Er-eignis could fill 2 theses. Should be interesting to see where the thread goes.
