With regard to history, too, both Heidegger and Hegel see that it is castings
of
being, or Seinsentwuerfe (for Hegel, the concept realizing itself as idea)
that
determine Western history. This, however, is not to play down the huge
differences between the two, the main one being that, whereas Hegel sees the
unfolding of the idea of freedom in history culminating in the modern age,
Heidegger sees the necessity of a “step back” from this unfolding to uncover
an
as-yet unthought alternative in Western history, viz. the clearing of
_alaetheia_. Whereas Hegel sees the modern world reconciled as the realization
of being, Heidegger points to the oblivion to being. Hegel’s owl of Minerva
flies at dusk, whereas Heidegger looks forward to what could still arrive, to

Such “prophecy” is certainly out of hand and cold blooded considering the
states of the world before Hegel and after Heidegger.Where Heidegger
prognosticates the “oblvion of being” in his rarified nihilism the “hitherto unknown,
alternative way” is certainly the predicate of the here and now: whereas
prognosticator Hegel and his known world is by no means an adequate predicate for the
(our) future. The wishful thinking of such prophets of doom are, accordingly
projected and then selectively induced by media agit-prop for an empty
collective nihilism as the advent of the known and less than alternative way. In all,
and as the state of the world, all sense of mortality and finality qua
thanatos has been lost or deprived of meaning. The oblivion of Being (Death) is no
longer of account to the effect of todestriebe as a part of public
entertainment and where oblivion (unconsciousness) sets both the individual and collective
mood. Runninf from Death, of course, means rushing toward it.
