What we may ask is the *difference* twixt *knowing* and *perceiving?* To
perceive is to become aware of some entity/entities through the sensors and to
*know* about some entity/entities is also to become aware of some

Jud;
In your definition do you distinquish between reflexive and involuntary
sensation and the kind your are speaking of that is reflective rather than
reflexive? Apparently the former would not be accounted for in your “…percipient
of, recognising of, remarking, responsive, seeing, to be sensible of, to be
sensitive to, to be sentient as regards, to be sure of, to be understanding
of, vigilant, watchful, to be wise to*, are almost exactly the same thing.
How else would a human know of/about an entity is any other way that through
the senses?” In other words, how do you account for the sensorium of the
autonomic nervous system that is not necessarilly active in terms of the brain?
Bernard

Jud:
Hi Bernard,
Both existential modalities are examples of the sensors sensing and
initiating neurological/physiological reactions to causal objects.

Examples?

(A) We feel a tickling in the upper rhinion area of our nose as the nasal
sensors sense the intrusion of some irritant and initiate a sneeze. In this
case the biological reaction seems to occur without any neurological initiatory
input. That is NOT to say that it is impossible to *stifle* a sneeze, but in
that case we are merely attempting to suppress that which biologically
[intramuscularly ] is already an ongoing fait accompli.

(B) We lovingly observe and embrace our beautiful children and resolve to
take them to the zoo as a further demonstration of our affection.

Now, to address your question. To me it is clear that knowledge that we are
going to sneeze, or are engaged in sneezing, is just as much a perception as
if we reflectively decide to take the kids to the zoo? So what is it that you
are looking at here Bernard - You’ve got me interested?

I think that what you are homing in on, is not so much an attempt to
distinguish a difference between a sensorial awareness of the fact that we are about
to or engaged in the act of sneezing, and the awareness of deciding to take
the kids to the zoo, but simply pointing to the different causal objects
which stimulate such responses, and the different reactions which ensue in regard
to the contrasting causal objects - i.e., the irritated nasal sensors on the
one hand, and the kids on the other.

regards,

Jud Evans.
