Well, Jud, the problem is that prof. Dick Swaab, in the Dutch TV program
‘God does not exist’ said this: since every society had a religion, it is
time to devise a secular religion, with a catechism of human rights. He is a
total atheist, but he think no society can endure without religion, be it
even an atheistic secular religion.

Durkheim and Strauss (both atheists) would agree with him. Auguste Comte (a
materialistic positivist) tried to devise his own Positivistic Religion. No,
they were not insane, they simply figured out how civilization works.

So, the problem is that too much religion is bad, and that too few religion
is also bad.
