Yes, I saw it that day. I was in uniform at the time and on liberty and
exiting from Grand Central Station. The tail of the plane was still sticking out
from where it hit and with some smoke mixing with the fog. But this is hardly
comparable to a jet passenger plane fully loaded with fuel hiting a building.
It would have made a spectacular explosive display striking the Empire State
Bldg. and it may have rocked on its roller foundation but not collapsed. The
heat produced simply would not have melted down the heavy steel girders as was
the case with the WTC that lacked such construction.
